Meet the team

Host + main educator: Anne van Midden

Anne van Midden (1986) is a floral artist and educator based in the Netherlands. She specializes in seasonal designs and art installations that she often photographs herself. Reaching a worldwide audience, she also teaches natural (foam free) floral design. Her students are encouraged to develop their own style, honouring flowers local to them.

Anne van Midden will show you how to create Dutch masters inspired arrangements with beautiful, seasonal flowers, that we will photograph later. And she will lead us as we create a large scale, foam free installation together. Yes, one of those magical, immersive ones!

Anne will be hosting business sessions as well: about personal branding, authentic marketing on social media and how to stay true to who you are & what you stand for. She is in business for over 11 years, pivoted many times and very happy to share her experiences.

Guest educator: Kreetta Järvenpää

Kreetta Järvenpää (1974) is a Helsinki-based artist who specializes in photographing flowers and plants, creating contemporary floral fantasies inspired by the Dutch golden age. She has an MA degree from the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. Järvenpää has been exhibiting her photographs since 2017 and she has been featured in publications such as Financial Times HTSIRum Ute, Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, Asun magazine and Orlando magazine.

You are in for a treat because Kreetta is coming from Finland to demonstrate how she photographs her famous flower designs. She will teach you how to capture your flowers using natural light, share tips for ecological ways to design with flowers, answer your questions and spend 1:1 time with each of you as you capture your own arrangements.

Kreetta’s eye for detail, years of experience and creative heart will inspire you for sure. And after her class you will see light differently!

Hosts: Slow Flowers Estonia

Slow Flowers Estonia is a NGO founded by Helen, Anete and Tuuli. They are three passionate flower farmers that believe that floristry and flower farming can be done more consciously and in tune with nature. They are mapping out all the micro growers and connecting them with local florists. SFE strives to create a supportive and knowledgable community of flower growers and florists who share our passion and principles of sustainability.

Anete is the reason we are all together now, as she boldly emailed Anne in January 2023: “hey, do you want to teach a workshop on my flower farm?”. Her kindness and her desire to make a change & build a tight community are part of the successful first 2 day workshop in 2023.

And now we are coming back to Anete’s farm for a 3 day experience!

Where the magic will happen

Lillelausuja (‘the flower whisperer’) farm is located 40 minutes from Estonias capital, Tallinn, in beautiful Mälivere village. The farm is surrounded by fields and forests and is a perfect environment for flower farming and being in contact with nature.

The flower farm is also a home, so everything is very laid back and relaxed, nothing posh or shiny here. Come as you are!

The workshop sessions will take place in an almost 100-year-old barn that will be filled with locally grown flowers and antique furniture. The high ceilings, open space and fresh clean country air will help you feel inspired, relaxed and free!

so valuable!

“Anne is an amazing instructor and person. She is so approachable and makes you feel comfortable in your own creativity. The experience of creating and working with others in an environment like this workshop is so valuable. You get to see what others do, how they work, and learn how to work together.

The ladies from Slow Flowers Estonia, Anne & Kreetta are all beautiful people and created an experience that was educational and fun. It was clear how much thought and intention was put into this workshop. Thank you!”

an experience to never forget!

I recommend this workshop to everyone!! It is a unique experience to spend two days with people who love slow flowers/sustainable work. Doing this with international diverse people added a lot to me personally.

It was really nice to get valuable personal feedback & tips from both Anne and Kreetta during the design sessions. Creating the installation was the highlight for me! That was a great and exciting part! All together, an experience to never forget!

new motivation

“This workshop went above & beyond my expectations! I learned so much and I was so thankful that Anne & Kreetta shared their knowledge and personal experiences. I absolutely loved the installation part. It was incredible to build such a big piece with so many people! And almost right after the Aesthete workshop I had to build a big installation in a church so it was super helpful as well! Anete and her crew were wonderful, such incredible surrounding, beautiful flowers and nice food. They always cared for us! Thank you all! This is going to be my motivator in many ways.”
